Welcome
As we enter the last month of Summer and settle down to the familiar rhythm of the fraternal year, much of the planning is behind us. The initial reports have been submitted and personnel have been assigned to various responsibilities within our Councils. There are many programs underway and more to implement in the next few months.
The one item that continues to resonate above all the others is the need to grow our Order. Each Council has a membership goal and is acutely aware of the necessity to manage its efforts to achieve it. Over these last few weeks we, collectively, have spent a great deal of time and effort to train our staffs on how best to do that.
Wherever possible each Council has or should be scheduling a first degree every month --- or at the very least scheduling candidates to attend one nearby. Some areas of the state are rich with potential members, others would appear less so. However, it is up to each one of us to ask every qualified Catholic man to become a Knight.
True, there are men assigned the responsibilities to recruit, but we have an absolute obligation to help them. It is our Order after all. We should be on the lookout for men who want to have a better life for their families in the embrace of the Church and our Faith.
There is no better way in which to experience this than from within the environment provided by the Knights of Columbus. In a unique manner, it permits men to share a common purpose while offering their diverse talents in many different ways. At the present time, over 1,800,000 Catholic men find great satisfaction in doing this. We must share this with as many others as we can.
The need to grow the Order is not simply to achieve a numerical objective or to increase the financial resources we have available to carry out our primary principle of Charity. It is much more than that.
We were put on earth to ultimately be with God for all eternity. By devoting ourselves to the purposes of the Order as envisioned by our beloved Founder, Venerable Father Michael J. McGivney, we will be among men whose actions underscore the thought so familiar to all of us that “God’s work on earth must truly be our own.”
Asking others to join us in that endeavor can only have positive results for ourselves, our Order and all of God’s people.
As I close I want to encourage you to continue to honor the Blessed Mother by praying the Rosary every day for your own intentions and in a very special way for Life, Marriage and the Family. Our Lord will refuse her nothing and through the intensity of our prayers, she will insure that the good we do will triumph over the evil which threatens our Society and our way of life.
Mary, Queen of the Knights, pray for us!
May God continue to bless each of you and your families!
