Tom Trudeau named Master of the Fourth Degree in VA

August 26, 2014 - Virginia State Deputy Stephen A. Burnley announced today that Thomas A. Trudeau, of Gloucester, Virginia has been named the new Master of the Fourth Degree for Virginia by Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson.  In a message to all Virginia Knights of Columbus, he asked that they "join me in congratulating Tom and his wife Jeri, to whom we pledge our support and energies."

Burnley also extended "our grateful thanks and prayers" to outgoing Master Isaias "Cy" Alba, who has "completed two outstanding terms as Master."  Alba, a resident of Springfield, is also a Past State Deputy of Virginia.  "He has much to be proud of," Burnley said, "recognizing the hundreds of activities promoting patriotism and our Catholic heritage to countless Virginians that were carried out during his tenure."

Trudeau retired after 37 years of service in the Federal Government, where he served at the National Archives, the Department of the Army and the Department of Health and Human Services.

In 1994, he became the chief of physical security for the office of the secretary at HHS, in which he was responsible for the security and safety of more than 6,000 employees occupying five buildings in Washington, D.C.  He received his undergraduate degree at Boston College and a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland.  He and his wife Jeri have one son, Tom, who lives with his wife and two daughters in West Point, VA.

Tom Trudeau has been a member of the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus since 1982, and has served as Faithful Navigator for two Fourth Degree assemblies: Seton Assembly in Sterling (1986-87) and Acts of the Apostles Assembly in Centerville (2001-2002).  Most recently, he has served as the District Marshall of the Fourth Degree in Virginia.

The Fourth Degree is known as the "Patriotic Degree," and as the "visible arm of the Knights of Columbus."  Fourth Degree Color Corps members wear a special uniform at various public occasions, including parades and liturgical events.  They focus their charitable work on supporting active duty members of the armed forces, military veterans and various patriotic activities.  The Virginia District is part of the Calvert Province, which also includes Fourth Degree Knights in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

More than 320,000 of the 1.8 million members of the Knights of Columbus worldwide are members of the Fourth Degree.
